How Does A Commercial Combination Fridge Freezer Work?

A commercial combination fridge freezer is a refrigerator used in many commercial settings, whether it be a commercial kitchen, cafe, cafeteria, catering business, or other food service businesses.
Providing both a fridge and freezer option allows staff to store a variety of foods and ingredients with different storage temperature requirements all in the one appliance.

This can save space and time in a busy commercial kitchen where quick and easy access to frozen or refrigerated items is imperative.
As mentioned in our previous article which explains how a commercial refrigerator works, a commercial combination fridge freezer works in much the same way.

Basic Operation Of A Fridge Freezer

The unit operates using a refrigeration system, which circulates refrigerant or coolant throughout the unit, using pipes and coils as a means of transportation. As the refrigerant passes through the evaporator coils, it evaporates and absorbs heat from the interior of the refrigerator, with the heat being released outside the unit. The refrigerant is then compressed back into a liquid form, and the process starts again.

The evaporation and compression cycle is controlled by a compressor, usually located at the bottom of the appliance. The compressor will cycle on and off in response to temperature changes inside the unit. If the temperature rises too much, the compressor will turn on, circulating compressed coolant through the unit to cool it down, and once the temperature is back down, the compressor shuts itself off.

A combination fridge freezer, as the name suggests, is comprised of two sections. Both the fridge and freezer section are governed by a separate thermostat, to ensure that both compartments are kept at the correct temperature.

Both sections also work in the same way, with cooled air circulating inside each compartment. The fridge section maintains a steady temperature, allowing you to store perishable goods at their correct temperature. The freezer section also has cooled air circulating inside, but at a much lower temperature. This allows for the storage of frozen goods for months at a time. How Do Commercial Combination Fridge Freezers Differ From Domestic Fridge Freezers?

Commercial fridge freezer units are designed to withstand daily use in a commercial setting. High quality, durable materials and insulation are used to construct a tough appliance that can withstand years of constant use in busy kitchens, all while minimising energy costs.

Commercial units are often larger and consist of more features such as a more robust cooling system, adjustable shelving, self closing doors, security locks, and more.

Commercial fridge freezers are versatile, convenient, and efficient appliances that will enhance the productivity and efficiency of any food service business.
